Give Thanks

We have a lot of troubles in this world, in this country, in this county. But I feel fortunate and am very thankful for all that I have: A home, good work, a wonderful family. I live in a beautiful area. I am healthy. I have fun friends. Man, the list goes on. I am thankful I am not a turkey.

The Web Doctors

We like building new sites with organizations that have a vision for how to use the Internet as a full-featured communication tool. But lately we seem to also be working on many sites that have been screwed up or abandoned by other web developers. I think there might be a market out there just specializing on fixing ailing sites: The Web Doctors!

The OLPC is Back!

OK, it never really went away. Jan Kraepelien has been bringing his to the RTC meetings for quite a while. But the opportunity to buy one for a child, or buy 2 (one for a child and one for yourself) has returned via a promotion on Amazon. Or buy 4 and get 2 and have them talk to each other! What a great Christmas present for the world. Technorati Tags: Amazon, buy one, get...

Mushroom Spotting

11/16/2008
By

Last week I took a class in mushroom identification. We hiked the Skunk Cabbage Trail in Redwood National Park. I shot a little bit of video with my new Canon HF 100. After I finally figured out how to import clips in to IMovie ’08, I put together this little video. My wife is the videographer. But since she’s pretty much dropped that profession, I’m trying to learn a few things. So, this is...

Monastery Destroyed

Back in the 70′s I spent a week at the Mt. Calvary  Benedictine Monastery in the hills above Santa Barbara. The Monastery stay was a wonderful, peaceful retreat during a tumultuos time in my life. No one spoke. The silence was a solace. This week the silence of the Monastery was broken by the roar of the fire and it was destroyed. Airport WI FI Expansion

11/12/2008
By

If you’ve been to the Arcata-Eureka airport in McKinleyville (writing or saying that always cracks me up) recently you’ve noticed the expanded facitilities. This is great for the area and the comfort of travelers. However, the wi fi service spearheaded by the Redwood Technology Consortium appears to have gotten left behind. The wi fi didn’t reach into the new security areas. That’s about to be rectified. Scott Joachim of C4iSecurity says that two wireless...

Realtor Media

In this market of dropping property values and a slow market for sellers it’s difficult to find your way in the real estate market. It seems realtors should be reaching out to people in innovative way and not with just reassuring words of what a good time it is to buy. Is it really such a good time if values will continue to drop? John Ford is realtor who seems to be everywhere these...

Is It Really All Over?

11/2/2008

I can’t wait for the election to be over. Like many people I am worn out by the whole thing. I understand, on the other hand, that many others are on the edge of their seats and in fact working the phones and the streets like crazy to get out the vote. I applaud that effort. But according to most of the polls and many commentators, Obama has a strong lead and McCain only...
