InfoWorld is reporting a new Trojan vulnerability for Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5. If this were a Windows alert I wouldn’t bother since there are so many. But Macs are often seen to be less vulnerable to this sort of thing and I believe most Mac owners have become lazy about security. I know I have. But as Macs gain more market share, look for more of these bastards attacking the system.
The presenter at the Tech Boot Camp last week hates Norton. He was unambiguous.
Yeah. Same here. Hmmm. I do use ichat sometimes. I wish the articles were more specific as to how it is passed – and how to identify it.
Which virus protection is best and does it have any conflicts with the OS systems? Norton’s the only one I remember using – and it seems to me that Norton Utilities started having issues with the OSX system. I’d stopped using virus protection by then.
Never heard of SecureMac and Intego. Guess I better buy some magazines and do some research.
Thanks for the heads up. I haven’t used virus protection since, uh, ever!
Good question. If you read the article there are a couple options Don’t use IChat or Limewire as that’s how this particular Trojan seems to be getting passed. Or, you can purchase and install one of the security programs mentione: “In response, SecureMac and Intego have both issued updated virus definitions to their security software applications for Mac, MacScan 2.5.2 and Intego VirusBarrier X5.”
In general, it seems using some viruss protection application is becoming just as crucial for Macs as it has been for Windows.
So – what do we do about it?
