One of the oddest things at this event is the constant search for power. All these people wandering around with laptops and netbooks, power cords in hand, clustering around outlets and power strips like animals huddling around watering holes in the dry season.

it makes me wonder about all the power being sucked off the grid on a daily basis. This thirst so evident at Drupalcon is just a tiny manifestation of what happens 24/7, at least in the developed world. And the rest of the developing world is clamoring for a place at those watering holes. It’s an enormous challenge to keep that power flowing while transitioning away from coal and other depleting sources of energy. And I feel a little bit guilty as I plug in so I can blog, send email, and tweet while the waiting for the next session.

But what are ya gonna do?
